Break it down

You can't work on "it's bad" — you can work on what actually happened.

"My relationship is bad" or "work isn't going well" — there's nothing in that sentence you can take hold of. One concrete scene — who said what, what you did — already shows the place where you have power. I ask for the detail not out of curiosity, but because that's where the lever is. The more generally you talk about something, the further you are from changing it.
