Seth's encyclopedia
These aren't lessons. They're words I use when I talk with someone — and I use them because they work, not because they sound nice. Each one came out of a real conversation, usually at night, usually when someone said they didn't know what to do with it. There's no point reading them all in a row. Find the one that's happening to you right now, read it, and do one thing today you otherwise wouldn't. The rest will keep until it's their turn.
Reality is made of what you were actually with — not what you wished.
You're moving, but you're not driving. The day happens without you.
The gap between a new step and a visible result. Most people quit there.
The thing that keeps coming back the same — just with different people.
You in ten minutes, if you decided like the version of you that doesn't know limits.
It isn't about blame. When you take responsibility, you have the power to change it.
What you put out comes back — later, and by another road.
Let the feeling finish before you jump to a fix.
Leaving so you don’t say something worse, and leaving so it never opens — looks the same, lands the opposite way.
The inner voice comes first — if it leads to truth, not comfort.
Motivation comes after the act, not before it.
What sets you off in someone else, you usually carry in some form yourself.
An honest I don't know opens more than a manufactured sure thing.
Polishing as a nicer word for being afraid to let it out.
Not the absence of problems — the result of having things closed.
The only bar that matters — not perfection, a shift from the last version of you.
The question that turns attention from what someone did to you toward what you can still move.
A day and an hour instead of "soon" — the only way to tell a decision from an intention.
Five open topics at once is a way to move on none of them.
From the inside you will not crack the motive — a number or a date shows it better than thinking.
When an answer arrives finished before you finish thinking it, it is almost always habit, not truth.
We keep promises to other people. The ones we make to ourselves we cancel without an apology.
Until it is only in your head, it is not out — and in the head you can negotiate forever.
